The expectations for Seth Jones were clear entering the 2017-18 season: lead the CBJ defensive core with outstanding play and off-ice leadership. He did just that, setting career highs in goals, assists and points, being selected to his first All-Star Game, receiving four votes towards the Norris Trophy, being awarded with an "A" on his jersey mid-season, and tying for the franchise record in scoring by a defenseman.
If Jones continues on the same track, not only will Jones have a shot at another All-Star selection, but a legitimate argument for the Norris Trophy.
The Hockey News recently listed Jones as
its top candidate
for the NHL's best defenseman honors.

Here's a look at their analysis:
Long, rangy and a great skater, Jones always projected to be a phenom, and he truly busted out in the second half last year, when he was arguably the NHL's best defenseman for a two-month stretch. In one 16-game chunk from mid-February to early April, he went nuclear for eight goals and 21 points in 16 games. The late surge gave him season-ending totals of 16 goals and 57 points. Jones also ranked 12th in the NHL in 5-on-5 Relative Corsi. He was a dominant force all over the ice, and he finished fourth in Norris Trophy voting.
