BRAMPTON, Ont. - Sean Jones' goal at 4:09 of the third period proved to be the winner as the Brampton Battalion earned their first win of the season, edging the Saginaw Spirit 4-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday.
The goal came 2:08 after Scott Tanski's power-play tally was called back after it was determined that Tanski kicked the puck past Spirit (3-2-0-0) goaltender Anthony Peters. Tanski had another goal disallowed at 12:01 of the final frame.
The Troops (1-3-0-0) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after Tanski opened the scoring 22 seconds into the game, then Philip Lane netted his first career OHL goal 1:03 later.
Saginaw pulled to within one on an Ivan Telegin power-play goal at 6:00 but Cameron Wind restored the Battalion's two-goal lead at 15:06.
Edward Pasquale was pulled from the game and replaced by Peters at that point, having surrendered three goals on six shots.
The Spirit took things over in the middle period, tying the game on goals by Vincent Trocheck and Cody Sol, with Trocheck's tally coming on the man advantage. Peters was solid in relief of Pasquale, stopping 23 of 24 shots. For his part, Patrick Killeen turned aside 24 of the 27 shots that were directed at the Battalion net.
