Jussi Jokinen re-signed with the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday, agreeing to a three-year, $9 million contract.

"Jussi is a player who fit in with our team from day one in all situations, and has been a valuable offensive contributor," said Hurricanes General Manager Jim Rutherford. "He feels that he has found a home in Carolina, and we are glad that he has chosen to stay with the Hurricanes."

Jokinen would have become an unrestricted free agent July 1 had he not signed.

In 70 games last season, Jokinen had 19 goals and 33 assists, and his 52 points were fourth on the team.

In six NHL seasons, with the Stars, Lightning and Hurricanes, Jokinen has 103 goals and 186 assists in 457 games.

However, Jokinen is best known for his shootout proficiency. He had just 2 shootout goals last season, but in six seasons since the advent of the tie-breaker, he leads all players with 28 goals.
