OSHAWA, Ont. - John Tavares scored the lone goal of the shootout as the Oshawa Generals snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-5 win over the Mississauga Majors to close out the OHL regular season Sunday.
Michael Del Zotto and Dale Mitchell had a goal and an assist each for the Generals, who fought back from a 3-1 deficit to take a 5-4 lead in the third period.
But Dustin Ekelman forced overtime by scoring with 2:56 remaining for the Majors.
Brett Parnham, Eric Regan and Tavares also scored for Oshawa, while defenceman James DeLory had three assists.
Jordan Mayer, Mike Pelech, Kyle Neuber and Ekelman each had a goal and an assist for the Majors. Tyler Allen and scored the other.
The Generals (38-17-6-7) now move on to face the Ottawa 67's in in the first round of playoffs, while the Majors (31-32-2-3) meet the Niagara IceDogs.
The Majors outshot the Generals 22-7 in the third period and 44-34 overall.
Oshawa scored three times on eight chances with the power play, while Mississauga was 1-for-6.
