John Klingberg will return for the Dallas Stars against the Chicago Blackhawks at American Airlines Center on Thursday (8:30 p.m. ET; FS-SW, NBCSCH, NHL.TV).

The 26-year-old defenseman injured his hand against the San Jose Sharks on Nov. 8, had surgery the following day and was ruled out for six weeks. He returned to practice Monday and has missed 18 games.
Stars coach Jim Montgomery said Klingberg will be paired with Esa Lindell against the Blackhawks.
"Go do what you do," Montgomery said after the morning skate when asked about his message to Klingberg. "He's wired that way. He's ultracompetitive. What you love about him is he always wants to make plays."
Klingberg said he can't try to do too much in his first game back.
"Don't try to be the hero," he said. "Just go in there and move the feet as much as you can, move the puck early and join the attack if it is there. Otherwise, keep it simple to start."
Klingberg has 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 16 games this season. He had 67 points (eight goals, 59 assists) last season, tied for second among NHL defensemen in scoring with San Jose's Brent Burns, one point behind John Carlson of the Washington Capitals (68). He played 24:04 per game last season, the most among Dallas defensemen, and played in the 2018 NHL All-Star Game.
The Stars (17-14-3, 37 points) are two points behind the Edmonton Oilers for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference and seven points behind the Colorado Avalanche for third place in the Central Division.
