KITCHENER, Ont. - John Gibson stopped all 49 shots he faced, including 23 in the first period, as the Kitchener Rangers shut out the Guelph Storm 2-0 on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Matt Puempel and Eric Ming scored for the Rangers, who lead the Western Conference quarter-final 2-0. The series switches to Guelph for Game 3 on Tuesday.

Garret Sparks stopped 36-of-38 shots for the Storm.

Kitchener was 0 for 4 on the power play, while Guelph was blanked in two chances with the man advantage.

Puempel opened the scoring at 10:18 of the second period after the Rangers finished killing off a penalty, depositing a rebound from Justin Bailey's shot behind Sparks.

Ming added some insurance 1:59 into the third period, one-timing Curtis Meighan pass over Sparks' right pad.

The Storm's frustration boiled over late in the third period. They had six players in the penalty box to end the game, nullifying any chance of a comeback.
