TORONTO/NEW YORK -- Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jhonas Enroth has been added to Team Sweden's 23-man roster for the World Cup of Hockey 2016, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association announced Friday.
Enroth, who signed a one-year contract worth $750,000 with the Maple Leafs on Monday, replaces Buffalo Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner.

"As Robin continues to progress during the offseason in his rehab from last season's ankle injury, he felt that it was best to withdraw from Team Sweden for the upcoming World Cup," Sabres general manager Tim Murray said. "Robin felt it was important to continue rehab in Buffalo to prepare for training camp. He has been working out both on and off the ice and we look forward to seeing him on the ice with our team next month."
Enroth, 28, is 50-66-15 with a 2.80 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in 147 NHL games with the Sabres, Dallas Stars and Los Angeles Kings. He was Buffalo's second-round pick (No. 46) in the 2006 NHL Draft and was 7-5-1 with a 2.17 GAA and a .922 save percentage with the Kings last season.
Lehner, 25, was limited to 21 games last season and was 5-9-3 with a 2.47 GAA and a .924 save percentage. He had ankle surgery in March.
"We really wanted to give Robin the opportunity to recover from his injury from last year," Sweden coach Rikard Gronborg said, "but unfortunately it wasn't enough time for him to feel 100 percent recovered."
Eight teams -- Team Canada, Team Czech Republic, Team Europe, Team Finland, Team North America, Team Russia, Team Sweden and Team USA -- will compete in the tournament from Sept. 17 to Oct. 1. All games will be played at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, home of the Maple Leafs.
