Jets provide latest challenge to Ducks' home run

by Staff

A win by the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday will move the Ducks into second place among the NHL's longest home winning streaks to start a season. The Ducks are 20-0-2 on home ice, where they have won 10 straight games.

The Ducks are the fifth team since 1973-74 to record at least one point in each of its first 20-plus home games in a season. The 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers (19-0-7) own the record of 26 straight.

The Jets, however, are not an easy out, especially since Paul Maurice took over as coach. Winnipeg has won three straight games after losing five in a row and gets Evander Kane back in the lineup after he missed the past four games with a laceration on right hand.

"They're going to be excited," Ducks center Nick Bonino said. "You look at their team, and they're pretty solid through all four lines, defense and in net. With us and our winning streak, it'll make them play a little harder."

Defenseman Luca Sbisa is recovered from his hand injury, but will not be in the lineup Tuesday. Coach Bruce Boudreau said Sbisa will need a few more "good practices" before he's ready.

Defenseman Sami Vatanen was sent to Norfolk of the American Hockey League on Tuesday to make room for Sbisa.

Jonas Hiller starts in goal for the Ducks. The Jets counter with Ondrej Pavelec.
