With their first win in their new home under their belts, the Winnipeg Jets
have to be feeling better about themselves as they head out on the road.
The relocated Atlanta Thrashers gave their fans reason to cheer Monday night when they edged Pittsburgh 2-1 for the first NHL victory by a Manitoba-based team since April 1996. They'll try to make it two in a row on Wednesday when they visit Toronto in the only game on the NHL schedule. TSN will televise the game in Canada, beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Jets got first-period goals by Kyle Wellwood
and Tanner Glass
to beat the Penguins, delighting the packed house of 15,004 at the MTS Centre. Those fans were undoubtedly happier than the 19,000-plus that filled the Air Canada Centre to see the Leafs lose 3-2 in overtime to the Colorado Avalanche
Still, the Leafs are off to an impressive 3-0-1 starts -- though they've been helped by playing their first five games at home. They begin a four-game road trip Thursday night in Boston.
