Jeremy Boyer hat trick as Thunderbirds beat Americans 6-2 @NHLdotcom

SEATTLE - Jeremy Boyer scored his first three goals of the season, lifting the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 6-2 Western Hockey League victory over the Tri-City Americans on Friday.

Boyer broke open a 2-2 tie with two third-period goals nine seconds apart. He added a third goal later in the period for the first hat trick of his WHL career.

Boyer, 17, had only one goal all last season.

Bud Holloway opened the scoring for Seattle (3-0-1-1) with his first goal of the season.

The Americans (7-2-0-0) took the lead with even-strength goals by Adam Hughesman and Jason Reese in the second period before Thomas Hickey scored his fourth of the season to even the score at 2-2 entering the third period.

Greg Scott added a short-handed goal for Seattle.

The loss was the first for Tri-City goaltender Chet Pickard, who dropped to 6-1-0-0 on the season and had only 14 saves in the game. Riku Helenius stopped 29 shots to pick up the win for Seattle.
