Jeff Hoggan scores two goals as Boston defeats New York Islanders 3-1 @NHLdotcom

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. (CP) - Jeff Hoggan scored two goals as the Boston Bruins exploited a shaky defence on their way to defeating the New York Islanders 3-1 in a pre-season game Tuesday night.

Though there was nothing at stake, the two clubs approached the bruising game as though it were late in the season.

Tension boiled over on the ice several times. Fans at Mile One Stadium were even treated to a few fights, one of which saw Bruins big man Zdeno Chara taken down by Kip Brennan.

The Bruins dominated the game almost from the drop of the puck.

Chuck Kobasew added a goal for Boston.

Defenceman Chris Campoli replied with the lone goal for the Islanders.
