WINNIPEG - Jason Jaffray scored twice as the Manitoba Moose beat the Peoria Rivermen 5-2 on Saturday night in the AHL.

Mario Bliznak, Greg Rallo and Tommy Maxwell earned singles for the Moose, who sit in first place overall with 87 points.

Curtis Sanford recorded consecutive wins over the Rivermen, blocking 23 shots.

The Moose opened the scoring at 7:34 when Tommy Maxwell's initial shot was tipped by Bliznak to put the home team on top.

At 11:57, Captain Mike Keane fed the puck to a perfectly positioned Jaffray, who wired it passed Peoria goalie Manny Legace for a 2-0 lead.

Maxwell earned his first goal of the season, snapping the puck into the net for a three-goal lead.

With a minute and a half left in the period, Jaffray netted his second putting the Moose ahead 4-0.

The Rivermen switched goaltenders for the second period, putting Ben Bishop between the visiting pipes.

Peoria was finally able to get on the board when Steve Wagner slapped the puck passed Sanford on the power play at 13:05 of the second.

Curtis Fraser cut Manitoba's lead in half just over two minutes later, but with 2:23 left in the game, Rallo scored to confirm the victory.
