Dallas Stars defenseman Jason Demers will miss a minimum of six weeks with a shoulder injury, coach Lindy Ruff told the Stars website on Thursday.

Demers was injured in the second period of a 4-3 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday when he fell into the boards after being pushed by Canadiens forward Lucas Lessio.

Demers, 27, has seven goals and 23 points in 61 games this season. If he is able to come back in the minimum timeframe he could be available to the Stars near the end of the Western Conference First Round or start of the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Stars already are without defensemen John Klingberg and Jordie Benn. They face the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday (8:30 p.m. ET; NHLN, SNO, SNP, CSN-CH, FS-SW). Ruff said Klingberg, Benn and forward Patrick Sharp, who all have lower-body injuries, are not expected to play against the Blackhawks or Saturday against the St. Louis Blues
