James van Riemsdyk signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

The 34-year-old forward had 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists) in 61 games for the Philadelphia Flyers last season.

He scored his 300th NHL goal in a 4-3 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on April 11.

"I was ultimately looking for two things, a team where I thought I had a chance to contend and win and just a spot where I thought I could be a good fit with how I play [and how that] fits in with what the team has and what they might need," van Riemsdyk said.

"Looking at it from afar, just the style of game that I bright, the net-front presence, some smarts, hockey sense, things like that, I think it definitely fits in well with how the team likes to play, how [coach Jim Montgomery] tries to coach the team. I think just even watching from afar last year, just watching the style that they try to play, it definitely seemed like one I could fit in with well."

Selected by Philadelphia with the No. 2 pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, van Riemsdyk has 591 points (300 goals, 291 assists) in 940 regular-season games for the Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs and 31 points (20 goals, 11 assists) in 71 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The Bruins on Saturday also signed forward Milan Lucic to a one-year, $1 million contract with another $500,000 in performance-related bonuses; forward Morgan Geekie to a two-year, $2 million contract ($1 million average annual value); forward Patrick Brown to a two-year, $1.6 million contract ($800,000 AAV); and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk to a one-year, $1.05 million contract.

Lucic, 35, had 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) in 77 games for the Calgary Flames last season.

Geekie, 24, had 28 points (nine goals, 19 assists) in 69 regular-season games and four points (two goals, two assists) in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Seattle Kraken last season.

Shattenkirk, 34, had 27 points (four goals, 23 assists) in 75 games with the Anaheim Ducks last season.
