James Taylor to perform anthem at Classic @NHLdotcom
The 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic is lining up the star power off the ice as well, with a list of musical talent featuring the legendary James Taylor along with Daniel Powter and the Dropkick Murphys set to perform before the game between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers on New Year's Day.

"We are absolutely thrilled that James Taylor, Daniel Powter and the Dropkick Murphys are performing at the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic," said Don Renzulli, NHL Senior Vice President of Events & Entertainment. "As performers and as hockey fans, James, Daniel and the Dropkick Murphys bring a new level of excitement to this historic game."

Taylor, a five-time Grammy Award winner and member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, will perform the U.S. national anthem prior to the opening faceoff. The singer-songwriter has sold more than 40 million albums.

Powter, a native of British Columbia, will perform the Canadian anthem. The former violinist's self-titled debut album featured the hit song "Bad Day," which earned him a 2007 Grammy Award nomination for "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance."

The Dropkick Murphys, an American Celtic punk band, will open the historic outdoor game with a performance of their signature song, "I’m Shipping Up to Boston." The group formed in Boston back in 1996 and quickly became local favorites and fixtures at Fenway Park and the TD Garden.

This will be the third edition of the Winter Classic, with last year's game at Wrigley Field in Chicago drawing the largest U.S. audience for a regular-season NHL game in 34 years. The game can be seen on NBC in the U.S. and CBC and RDS in Canada.
