PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - James Bettauer scored the overtime winner as the Prince Albert Raiders won 5-4 over the Swift Current Broncos in Western Hockey League action on Friday evening.
The Raiders (4-7-2) stormed out of the gates scoring two goals in a three-minute span.
Mark Winther scored his fourth of the season when Broncos defenceman Dillon Heatherington blew a tire on the end boards, allowing Winther to coolly slot home.
Jonas Knutsen notched his third of the campaign on a shot from the half boards that handcuffed Broncos' netminder Jon Groenheyde.
The home side's lead was brief, however, as Coda Gordan and Brad Hoban levelled the game at two for the Broncos (4-7-2) going into the first intermission.
The Broncos took the lead in the second as Gordon deposited his second of the evening and eighth of the campaign.
Raiders' co-captain Mark McNeill notched the equalizer in the third period, his fourth of the season on a sizzling wrist shot that beat Groenheyde upstairs.
"It's a really big win," said McNeill. "It shows the character we are capable of."
Winther obtained his second of the game and fifth of the season to put the home side up 4-3 with 7:34 remaining.
But with the power play and their net empty, Broncos' Taylor Vause sent the game into overtime with 43 seconds left, scoring his 10th of the season.
Eric Williams stopped 28 shots between the pipes for the Raiders, while Groenheyde turned aside 27 shots in the defeat.
The Raiders are now level on 10 points with the Broncos in the standings.
Swift Current went 2-for-9 on the power play, and the Raiders were 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
The Raiders play host to the Regina Pats on Saturday evening while the Broncos are idle until returning to Prince Albert on Thursday, Oct. 27.
