Voracek, a 33-year-old forward, has not played since Nov. 4 because of a concussion and previously said his hockey career could be over.
"It's going to be a long one, but it is what it is," Voracek told the Blue Jackets website Dec. 5. "I tried to play through everything over my career, and I didn't miss many games. But with my head injuries in the past, it's pretty serious to take a look at and just make sure I consider all my options for the future, and then we'll see where it's going to take me."
Voracek, who has six points (one goal, five assists) in 11 games this season, has one season remaining on an eight-year contract he signed with the Philadelphia Flyers in July 2015.
