Jake Allen makes 32 saves as Peoria Rivermen blank Abbotsford Heat 5-0 @NHLdotcom

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Jake Allen made 32 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Peoria Rivermen beat the Abbotsford Heat 5-0 in American Hockey League action Sunday afternoon.

Phil McRae had a goal and two assists while creating many highlight-reel plays to lead Peoria. Shaun Heshka, Adam Cracknell, Brett Sonne and Stefan Della Rovere also scored for Peoria.

Patrick O?Sullivan had one helper, giving him eight points in four games since joining the Rivermen on loan. Jonathan Cheechoo had two assists.

Allen made 11 third-period stops, with perhaps his flashiest save coming with eight minutes left in second period when he snagged Akim Aliu?s backhander off a dangerous rush.

Peoria (34-26-3) has now won three straight and is 5-2-0 in its past seven to move past Abbotsford (32-24-6) into fifth in the tight Western Conference.

Danny Taylor stopped just 13 of 18 shots in the loss.

The Rivermen opened the scoring on an ugly play at 9:14 of the first as Cracknell fanned on a shot while being hooked and driven into Taylor. With a delayed penalty coming up, Evgeny Grachev threw a puck towards the net that ricocheted off Cracknell and in for his 19th of the year.

The Rivermen made it 2-0 at 16:04 when Sonne deflected a shot by Shaun Heshka over the arm of Taylor for his eight of the season. It was his first goal since Jan. 14, a span of 23 games. Sonne hails from Maple Ridge, just across the Fraser River from Abbotsford.

The scoring barrage continued just 56 seconds into the second with a highlight-reel goal. O???Sullivan threaded a pass to McCrae, who dangled two Abbotsford defenders before feeding a backhand saucer pass to Della Rovere. The tally gives the resident tough guy four goals on the campaign.

The Rivermen went up 4-0 when Heshka scored on a rebound at 5:46. Cade Fairchild???s shot was kicked out by Taylor but right to Heshka who had an open net to pot his third of the season.

McRae finished off the scoring with another highlight play as he snaked through defenders and wired a shot top corner for his 21st of the year at 10:31.
