WINNIPEG - Centre Jason Jaffray scored the game-winner against his former team as the Abbotsford Heat recorded their first ever American Hockey League victory with a 4-2 win over the Manitoba Moose Tuesday night.

Jaffray played four and half seasons with the Moose and is second all-time in goals (95) and points (233) with the franchise. He signed in the off-season with the Calgary Flames, the parent club of the Heat, who played out of Moline, Ill., as the Quad City Flames last season.

Abbotsford (1-0-2) also got goals from Kris Chucko, Jamie Lundmark and Riley Armstrong.

Michael Grabner and Mario Bliznak scored goals for Manitoba (3-2-0).

The 5,471 fans on hand at the MTS Centre had to wait until late in the first period to see any scoring.

The Heat scored first at 18:59 just as a Moose penalty expired when Chucko took a rebound and flipped it under the arm of Manitoba goalie Cory Schneider for the 1-0 lead.

But just 28 seconds later, Grabner fired a shot on the power play that deflected off an Abbotsford defenceman past Heat goalie Leland Irving to make it 1-1.

Manitoba went up 2-1 midway through the second period when Bliznak's backhand shot hit Schneider's stick and trickled through his legs.

Abbotsford responded with two quick goals to make it 3-2 after two periods.

Lundmark swiped a loose puck past Schneider after a rebound and then Jaffray stole the puck from Manitoba defenceman Michael Funk and went in alone with a high shot that beat Schneider at 14:50.

Armstrong stretched the lead to 4-2 with a long shot straight at the side of the net that went through Schneider's feet at 4:51 of the third.

Manitoba outshot Abbotsford 30-19.

The two teams meet again Wednesday night in Winnipeg.
