The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Tomas Kubalik, their sixth pick (No. 135) in the 2008 Entry Draft, to a three-year, entry-level contract. General Manager Scott Howson announced the signing on Tuesday; terms were not disclosed.

Kubalik scored 33 goals and added 42 assists for 75 points, 95 penalty minutes and had a plus-16 rating in 58 games with Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2009-10, his first in North America. He led the club and tied for sixth in the QMJHL in game-winning goals with seven, while also leading the club in penalty minutes. He ranked fourth on the Tigers in goals, points and power-play goals (12). He added 4 goals and 14 points in 16 playoff games to rank second on the team in playoff scoring.

Kubalik also had 4 goals and 9 points in six games for the Czech Republic at the World Junior Championships to tie for the team lead in goals and points.

"Tomas had a very successful year in Victoriaville and we are looking forward to seeing him begin his professional career next fall," Howson said.
