The Columbus Blue Jackets
on Tuesday acquired center Trevor Smith
from the Anaheim Ducks
in exchange for defenseman Nate Guenin
Smith, 25, has 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points, all team highs, and 16 penalty minutes in 35 games this season with the Syracuse Crunch, Anaheim's AHL affiliate. He has an assist in seven NHL games with the New York Islanders
during 2008-09, and scored 30 goals with the Isles' AHL affiliate in Bridgeport that season. Smith was assigned to the Jackets' AHL farm team, the Springfield Falcons.
Guenin, 28, appeared in three games for Columbus this season, going scoreless with 2 PIM while averaging 14:47 of ice time. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defenseman was recalled from Springfield on Oct. 16 and send back 10 days later. He had 5 assists and 21 PIM in 30 games with Springfield.
Guenin has appeared in 17 career NHL games with Philadelphia (2006-09), Pittsburgh (2009-10) and Columbus (2010-11), earning a pair of assists and 8 PIM.
