Off-day in Traverse City; practice, mini-golf and great meals
09.14.2010 / 12:30 a.m. (ET)

Today may have been a day off playing games, but the competition definitely did not stop.

In fact, the competition level within our team only got stronger. We started the day with a full hour, long team practice that consisted of tons of shooting drills, some team system work, and most of all a couple of competition drills.

Once practice was over, the boys all gathered up in the locker room for the 2010 Dallas Stars Mini-Golf Tournament Draft. All the rounds on the course over the course of the past few days each player took part in was instrumental towards who got picked where. Pick by pick the fire inside the dressing room rose to new levels.

Once all the teams were picked, we headed over to the course for the moment each and every player had been waiting for the entire morning, the start of the tournament. After 18 grueling holes of putt-putt golf, the winner was declared. Unfortunately the team I was with fell just short of capturing the tournament title, but all in all it was a fun event that I will be looking forward to taking part in next year.

For dinner, the coaching staff took the team over to a nice restaurant on the water, for a phenomenal meal. Each of us got a salad, a 15 oz filet, and dessert…talk about living the dream. It was quite the day off to say the least, but now its time to refocus on our goal of winning a big contest against the Tampa Bay Lighting, which will take place at 3 p.m., Tuesday afternoon. It will be a tough game, as Tampa just came off a big win against Detroit.

Great team win puts us back in the mix

09.13.2010 / 12:01 a.m. (ET)

What a TEAM effort today!

All the guys were a little down after our game Saturday night because it wasn't the result we all had hoped for but with the great leadership we have within our team, we were able to respond with a 4-1 win on Sunday night over a very good St. Louis team.

Tyler Beskorowany (26 saves) was great for us in net and he made some big saves throughout the game to get us the win. It's great to be able to work with a guy like 'Besko' because, not only is he a great goalie, but he is an even better person off the ice. I am definitely taking full advantage of my time with him this week, and trying to learn as much as I can before the season starts.

Tonight the coaches let us go out on our own and spend some time with either the boys or our parents. It’s been a great couple of days here in Traverse City, and everything is only going to get better from this day forward. Now it's time for another round of mini-golf, which has been the hot spot for our team thus far. Check back tomorrow for an update on our day off!

A disappointing start
09.12.2010 / 8:00 a.m. (ET)

We lost our game last night to the Detroit Red Wings in our opener of the tournament and it's pretty tough to let something like that roll off my back because I was really excited for that start and I was really prepared and worked so hard this summer.

I wanted to give the team the best chance to win as I could and I got out there and was a little bit too excited and I think it showed a little bit.

I think I'd like a couple of those goals back (Campbell allowed 3 goals in the opening 6 minutes of the first period) but, at the same time, I learned a lot and I feel that the game made me a lot better. We have a morning practice (Sunday) and a few guys will be here ... I'll be here for sure.

For me though, this isn't the end of the world. It's a learning experience, so I'm looking forward to a new day and just trying to get better each day. I'm here and just taking it all in.

Getting ready for opening game
09.11.2010 / 4:30 p.m. (ET)

Hi everyone!

Not too much going on today as it is our first game day. We had a pretty long pre game skate today, as we worked on our special teams systems.

After the skate we headed back to the hotel for our pregame meal that consisted of chicken and pasta.  Now it’s time to go through my typical game day routine. I’m not superstitious or anything but I like to do a couple of things on game days. Basically, I listen to my ipod all day and get focused mentally, then take a nice 45-minute nap, and to top it off I take a cold shower.

Once I do those things I’m off to the rink to play the game. Being that the game tonight is at 7, I will recap how everything went tomorrow. Thanks for reading!

Prepping for the Traverse City Prospects Tournament
09.10.2010 / 5:45 p.m. (ET)

Friday morning was our first day of practice as a team here in Traverse City (Mich.). All the boys were fired up to get out on the ice after a very inspirational team meeting that took place last night.

Basically, the coaches told the guys that each year, one player off the Traverse City team has made the Dallas Stars. I never realized that going into the tournament, so it was pretty motivational to hear something of that magnitude.

Practice today was exactly the way I like it…tons and tons of shots coming from everywhere. After a good practice with the team, a few of the guys went over for some sushi across the street from our hotel. Next on the schedule for the day was a head-to-head mini golf match-up with my roommate Alex Theriau.

The stakes were high as we both wagered $10. Going into the match I was fairly nervous about my opponent not knowing what to expect. However, all the mini-golf I played as a kid really paid off today as I was able to win the match with a 4-hole decision. This camp has already been a lot of fun not only being out on the ice with some great players and coaches, but having some fun activities away from the rink as well. The first day of camp is in the books, and now its time to rest up and get ready for our game against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night (7 p.m. ET).

Check back tomorrow and thanks for reading...
