CRANBROOK, B.C. - Jesse Ismond's game winner 8:15 into the second period helped the Kootenay Ice end a three-game season-opening losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen in WHL action Friday night.

The Ice (2-2-0-1) opened the scoring while shorthanded as Dustin Sylvester finished off a 2-on-1 break after receiving a pass from Michael Stickland.

The Hitmen (2-2-0-0) tied it early in the second on a power play as Kyle Bortis scored on a 2-on-0 break after receiving a pass from Brandon Kozun.

Kootenay regained the lead after Ismond redirected a point pass from Ian Barteaux.
