Isles' Tavares has broken foot @NHLdotcom
New York Islanders center John Tavares  sustained a fracture to his right foot while playing for Canada at the World Hockey Championships in Germany last month.

The Islanders confirmed Thursday that Tavares took a shot off his foot during the tournament but the injury was not diagnosed until Wednesday. Tavares, the No. 1 pick in the 2009 Entry Draft, led the tournament with seven goals -- although Canada did not make the medal round.

Tavares scored 24 goals in his first NHL season and led the Islanders with 54 points while playing all 82 games.
