The New York Islanders
placed forward Rob Schremp
and goaltender Nathan Lawson
on waivers Saturday.
Schremp, who was claimed by the Islanders off waivers in October of 2009, has 10 goals and 12 assists for New York this season. His playing time has been limited as of late as the Islanders have found offense from several other players on their roster.
Lawson was expected to receive more playing time when Kevin Poulin
dislocated his kneecap and had season-ending knee surgery, but Al Montoya
-- acquired earlier this month from Phoenix -- has emerged as the club's No. 1 goaltender.
Lawson is still expected to be Montoya’s backup on Saturday night. In eight appearances this season, Lawson is 1-4-1 with a 4,57 goals-against average. The Islanders enter Saturday's action 13 points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, and play host to the Washington Capitals
at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
