Islanders' Tavares on hot streak, Stadium Series

by Staff

New York Islanders captain John Tavares joined NHL Live to talk about his team's recent hot streak and the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series at Yankee Stadium.

The Islanders have won four straight games -- seven straight on the road -- and are 8-2-0 in their past 10 games.

"The big turnaround for us is playing a lot more confident," Tavares said. "We seem to play better as the game goes on. We just seem to stay with it much better than early in the season."

The Islanders will play the New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium on Jan. 29. The excitement over the event hit Tavares while he was watching the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.

"Watching the Winter Classic and what a great event that was … it really hits you whenever you'd like to be outdoors," Tavares said. "I remember the days when there was that much snow on the ice playing outdoors as a kid, so you look forward to playing in those elements and having those challenges. It's going to be a big game for is. Obviously with that rivalry at Yankee Stadium, it's going to be pretty special.
