New York Islanders captain John Tavares is day-to-day because of an illness, coach Jack Capuano said Monday.
Capuano said Tavares was being checked out by doctors Monday.
"I don't expect him here for a little bit," Capuano told Newsday.
Tavares did not play either of the Islanders' weekend games, a 3-2 shootout loss to the Devils on Saturday and a 2-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday.
Tavares leads the Islanders with 11 points in 10 games. His five goals are tied for the team lead with Frans Nielsen.
