New York Islanders
general manager Garth Snow
joined NHL Live to discuss his trade of forward Thomas Vanek
to the Montreal Canadiens
and his hopes for the franchise in the future.
When Snow originally traded for Vanek in October, there was a risk due to Vanek's status as a pending unrestricted free agent. But as Snow tells NHL Live, the risk was worth it.
"For us, when we traded for Vanek, we got a proven 40-goal scorer who had been one of the upper-echelon wingers for a significant amount of time," Snow said. "So for us, the opportunity to put him alongside John Tavares and Kyle Okposo, I think any fan who has watched our team play those next few months realized it was one of the top lines in the League. Obviously there's a risk when you give up a first- and a second-round pick, but we recovered the second-round pick in the [Andrew] MacDonald trade."
