The New York Islanders on Wednesday agreed to terms with Andrey Pedan, a third-round selection in the 2011 NHL Draft, on a three-year, entry-level deal.
Pedan will join the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League on an amateur tryout agreement.
Pedan, 19, led all Guelph Storm defensemen in scoring with a career-high 44 points (14 goals, 30 assists) in 60 games this season. The Kaunas, Lithuania native led the Storm in playoff scoring with three goals and four points in five Ontario Hockey League playoff games, as Guelph fell in the first round to the Kitchener Rangers.
For his three-year OHL career, Pedan posted 26 goals, 96 points and 386 penalty minutes in 174 regular-season games. He also added four goals and 15 points in 17 career OHL playoff games.
On the international stage, Pedan represented Russia at the 2011 Under-18 World Junior Championship. He recorded two assists in six games as Russia earned a bronze medal.
