NEW YORK -- The New York Islanders are looking for their first victory of the season Monday and will again be without goalie Jaroslav Halak.
The Islanders (0-1-1) play the Winnipeg Jets at Barclays Center and Thomas Greiss will be in net.
"Still day-to-day," Jack Capuano said of Halak. "Still skating early with our goaltending coaches. As we go on we'll figure out a game plan."
Halak sustained the injury Sept. 21 during a preseason game and missed most of training camp. In his absence, Greiss and Jean-Francois Berube, respectively, started the first two games of the season for the Islanders.
Winnipeg (2-0-0) has won each of its first two games on a four-game road trip, defeating the Boston Bruins 6-2 on Thursday and the New Jersey Devils 3-1 on Friday. The Jets look for their first 3-0-0 start in franchise history.
"They are a big, physical team," Capuano said. "They can score goals. I'm not a big stat guy but their stats speak for themselves. We need to score some goals."
The Jets and Islanders may have gotten off to different starts but coach Paul Maurice noted his team needs to play the same way it has in the first two games.
"We are going to see a little different offensive group with what the Islanders have, so it's not going to look the same as it looked in the first couple of games," Maurice said. "I think we got better in the second game in terms of what we gave the other team. But for us, this is all a learning, building process."
