NEWARK, N.J. -- New York Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak will play against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Saturday after missing the previous game because of an illness.
Thomas Greiss made 26 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes at Barclays Center on Thursday.
Halak is 3-1-0 with a 1.76 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in four appearances this season.
"Just talking with [Halak] and when he tells you he's ready and he's 100 percent, there's no question we're going to put him in there," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said.
Halak is not certain to play Sunday against the Buffalo Sabres at Barclays Center.
"I don't know if he'll play both games, to be honest with you," Capuano said. "We always talk about it after the game, but there's a chance we'll continue to do what we do, give guys rest."
Islanders forward Ryan Strome (ill) and Devils forward Jiri Tlusty (upper body) are considered game-time decisions. The Islanders recalled forward Taylor Beck on emergency loan from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League.
The Devils are 5-1-0 in their past six games. The Islanders are 6-1-1 in their past eight after starting the season with back-to-back losses against the Chicago Blackhawks, including one in regulation.
