The New York Islanders
acquired defenseman James Wisniewski
from the Anaheim Ducks
on Friday in exchange for an optional third-round selection in the 2011 Entry Draft.
The 26-year-old Wisniewski set career highs with the Ducks last season by playing in 69 regular-season games and registering 27 assists and 30 points.
A fifth-round pick of the Blackhawks in 2002, Wisniewski has recorded 17 goals, 97 points, 264 penalty minutes and a plus-19 rating in 254 regular-season games with Chicago and Anaheim. He added 1 goal and 3 points in 12 playoff games for the Ducks during the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Islanders will have the option until June 1, 2011, to transfer to Anaheim their own third-round selection in the 2011 Entry Draft or Colorado's third-round selection, previously acquired by the Islanders.
The trade is conditional on Wisniewski passing a physical by 5 p.m. ET on Sunday.
