Islanders acquire forward Lessard from Thrashers for defenceman Skinner @NHLdotcom

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - The New York Islanders acquired right-winger Junior Lessard from the Atlanta Thrashers for defenceman Brett Skinner on Tuesday.

Lessard will report directly to the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Islanders added.

Lessard appeared in 41 games with the AHL's Chicago Wolves this season, registering six goals and five assists. Lessard, 28, has played in 27 career NHL games with Dallas and Tampa Bay, recording three goals and an assist.

Lessard has played in 298 career AHL games, recording 86 goals and 92 assists over five seasons.

Skinner appeared in 11 games this season with the Islanders, recording four penalty minutes. He also played in 24 contests with the AHL Tigers, registering a goal and 11 assists.

Skinner, 25, spent last season with the AHL's Providence Bruins, recording seven goals and 40 assists.

The Islanders also announced Tuesday that defenceman Andy Sutton, who broke a foot in December, had surgery and will be sidelined at least eight weeks.
