The Iowa Wild, the new American Hockey League affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, on Tuesday named former NHL defenseman Steve Poapst as an assistant coach and hired Tim Flynn as video coach.
Poapst, 44, spent the past three seasons as an assistant with the Rockford IceHogs, the Chicago Blackhawks' AHL affiliate. Prior to joining the IceHogs, he spent nearly four years as general manager and coach of the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League.
Poapst played 307 NHL games, 220 of them with the Blackhawks, scoring eight goals and 36 points before retiring in 2006.
Flynn joins Iowa after spending the past three years at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, where he served as director of hockey operations for the 2012-13 season.
