The Pittsburgh Penguins return to Consol Energy Center after winning two of three games in Western Canada, but they'll face a major challenge when they host the Detroit Red Wings in this week's Wednesday Night Rivalry game (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN1, TVA Sports).
The Red Wings come to Pittsburgh on a roll, having won nine of their past 10 games, all with Petr Mrazek in goal while regular starter Jimmy Howard recovers from a groin injury that has kept him out for a month. Howard is scheduled to dress as the backup to Mrazek. Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury comes into the game off back-to-back shutouts on the road against the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. His eight shutouts lead the NHL.
This is the 144th regular-season game between the Penguins and Red Wings. A victory by the Penguins would even the all-time series between them at 64 wins apiece, with 16 ties.
