IceCaps power play fails to deliver in 4-2 loss to Sharks @NHLdotcom

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A two-goal first period for the Worcester Sharks proved insurmountable for the St. John's IceCaps, who fell 4-2 on Sunday in American Hockey League action.

Travis Oleksuk, Eriah Hayes, Dan DaSilva and Rod Davison scored for the Sharks (23-17-3).

Blair Riley and Kael Mouillierat replied for the IceCaps (28-18-3).

The Sharks scored first when a pass from behind the net found Oleksuk out front alone, where he scored into a wide-open net 5:27 into the first period.

Davison doubled the lead for the Sharks, hitting a one-time slapshot past St. John's goaltender Michael Hutchinson with 5:03 left in the period.

The Sharks added a third goal as Chad Rau pulled a move to the net but was shut down on a great sprawling pad save by Hutchinson before Hayes tapped home the rebound 2:50 into the third period on the power play.

The IceCaps found the scoresheet when Riley tipped home a Will O'Neill slapshot from the point at the 11:10 mark of the third period.

Mouillierat pulled the IceCaps to within one by tapping home a rebound off a Carl Klingberg backhander at 14:50.

DaSilva buried the empty netter with 22.2 seconds left.

Troy Grosenick stopped 29 shots for the Sharks, while Hutchinson made 25 saves.
