Ice forwards Benoit and Reinhart each score twice in 4-1 win over Portland @NHLdotcom

CRANBROOK, B.C. - Kootenay Ice forwards Eric Benoit and Max Reinhart each had two goals in a 4-1 win over the Portland Wnterhawks in Western Hockey League action on Saturday night.

There was no scoring in the first period even tough the Ice had two 5-on-3 power plays.

Benoit scored in the second period for the Ice (11-3-2) when Adam Rossignol fed him with a wide open net to shoot at.

Portland (8-7-1) tied the game on the power play with a slap shot from the point by Tyler Wotherspoon.

The Ice regained the one-goal lead on a 2-on-1 short-handed break as Drew Czerwonka threw a pass to the low slot that Reinhart reached for and redirected behind the goalie.

Early in the third period the Ice took a 3-1 lead as Reinhart fed Benoit in the low slot and his one-timer went through the goalies legs.

The Ice put the game away with an empty-net goal from Reinhart after Joe Antilla hit the post.

This was the only meeting of the year between the clubs and was a rematch of last years? WHL Finals.
