Ice draw first blood, beat Tigers 5-2 to take lead in series @NHLdotcom

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. - The Kootenay Ice drew first blood in their best-of-seven WHL Eastern Conference quarter-final series with the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday at The Arena.

In Game 1 of the series, the visitors skated away with a 5-2 win. They lead the series 1-0.

Ben Maxwell had a pair of goals for the Ice, while Steve DaSilva, Andrew Bailey and Michael Stickland scored singles. Wacey Hamilton and Brennan Bosch replied with singles for the Tigers.

Kris Lazaruk made 23 saves earning the win in goal for the visitors. Ryan Holfeld turned away 25 of 29 shots suffering the loss in goal for the Tigers.

Game 2 of the series is set for Saturday at The Arena.
