RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Niclas Wallin was expected to be sidelined about a month because of a right shoulder injury that will require surgery.
The team said Friday that Wallin will have the operation Saturday. Wallin returned to action Wednesday night at Florida after missing two games with a groin injury.
Wallin injured his shoulder during training camp, but for the most part has been able to play through it. Team spokesman Kyle Hanlin said Friday that Wallin was still having problems with the groin injury, so the Hurricanes decided it was a good time for him to sit out for the surgery.
Wallin has one assist and 12 penalty minutes in 11 games this season. He has a career total of 14 goals, 33 assists and 281 penalty minutes in 351 regular-season games, all with Carolina.
