Hurricanes sign Ruutu to one-year deal @NHLdotcom

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed forward Tuomo Ruutu on Tuesday to a one-year contract worth $2.25 million.

Ruutu had 10 goals and 22 assists while splitting last season with Carolina and Chicago. The Hurricanes picked him up in a deadline deal for forward Andrew Ladd.

Chicago took Ruutu in the first round with the ninth overall pick in 2001. He made nearly $1.9 million last season, and would have been eligible for restricted free agency July 1. That means the Hurricanes would have had the right to match any other offers he would have received.
