GAME: Carolina Hurricanes (14-3-1) at New York Rangers (11-7-3).
TIME: Saturday, 1 p.m. EST.
The Carolina Hurricanes look to extend their winning streak over the New York Rangers to four games when the teams conclude a home-and-home series.
Kevyn Adams recorded his first career hat trick and Martin Gerber made 28 as the Hurricanes continued the best start in franchise history with a 5-1 win over the Rangers on Thursday.
Carolina has a three-game winning streak in this series, outscoring New York 14-6 since a 4-1 loss at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 30, 2003.
"My goals were a product of great work around me," Adams said. "It's exciting for me, because we won the game, and it's nice to get the fans excited, too."
Eric Staal and Justin Williams also scored Thursday for Carolina. Staal's goal was his 13th of the season, but he left the game with a bruised back.
"He kind of fell on his backside," Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette said. "I don't think it's anything major."
Michael Nylander scored the lone goal for the Rangers, who accumulated eight penalties.
"I think we took too many penalties trying to get back in the game in the third," New York defenseman Tom Poti said. "It was penalty, penalty, penalty and that just tires everyone out. You're not going to win too many games if that's the scenario in the third period."
Hurricanes captain Rod Brind'Amour, who has 23 goals and 30 assists in 66 games against the Rangers, didn't play Thursday because of a groin injury.
Rangers forward Jaromir Jagr was held pointless for only the fourth time this season. He has 18 goals this season, with 10 coming on the power play.
New York won the first three games of its five-game road trip before suffering losses to Toronto and Carolina.
