Carolina Hurricanes forward Andrej Nestrasil will miss the rest of the season with a fractured vertebra, general manager Ron Francis announced Tuesday.

Nestrasil, 25, was injured Feb. 25 against the Toronto Maple Leafs when he was hit by Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri and went awkwardly into the boards.

Nestrasil established NHL career highs this season with nine goals, 14 assists and 23 points in 55 games, including four goals and 10 points in 20 games prior to the injury.

The Hurricanes face the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; FS-CR, MSG+, NHL.TV) six points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
