Hurricanes' Faulk out one week; Murphy recalled @NHLdotcom

The Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday recalled defenseman Ryan Murphy from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

The move was necessary after Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford learned that defenseman Justin Faulk, who sustained an upper-body injury in a game against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, would miss at least one week.

Murphy has produced 17 assists and 18 points in 16 games with the Checkers since being assigned to the team on Jan. 24. In 39 NHL games with the Hurricanes this season, he has two goals and 11 points. Murphy was selected by the Hurricanes in the first round (No. 12) of the 2011 NHL Draft.
