TBL@CAR, Gm1: David Ayres sounds 3rd period siren

The Carolina Hurricanes called on a secret weapon to fire up the crowd at PNC Arena on Sunday.

David Ayres, the most popular player in Hurricanes history to have one career game played, was in Raleigh to crank the siren before the third period of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Second Round between the Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Carolina fans certainly remember Ayres from his now-famous performance as an emergency backup goalie where he earned the win for Carolina against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena on Feb. 22, 2020.
Ayres followed Carolina color commentator Tripp Tracy, who cranked the siren for the first period, and NC State tennis players Alana Smith and Jaeda Daniel, who did so before the second.
But Carolina saved Ayres for last, and did he ever get the crowd going.
