RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -Carolina Hurricanes captain Rod Brind'Amour left in the opening moments of Thursday night's game against Pittsburgh with an apparent injury to his left knee.

Brind'Amour, who entered with a team-leading 51 points, was sandwiched by the Penguins' Nathan Smith and Georges Laraque near the boards at the center line just 1 1/2 minutes into the game. He fell to the ice, skated to the bench and then grimaced as he was taken into the dressing room.

Brind'Amour has 19 goals and 32 assists for the Hurricanes, who entered the game tied with Atlanta and Washington atop the Southeast Division.
