Hurricanes add MacLean to coaching staff @NHL
New Carolina Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller has added a former teammate to his coaching staff, hiring former New Jersey Devils coach John MacLean as an assistant coach.

Muller, hired Monday to replace Paul Maurice, adds MacLean to a staff that includes assistant coaches Dave Lewis, Rod Brind'Amour and Tom Barrasso.

"I'm very pleased to add another character leader to our coaching staff," said Hurricanes General Manager Jim Rutherford.

MacLean, 47, went 9-22-2 in 37 games with the Devils last season, his first season as an NHL coach.

MacLean and Muller spent seven seasons (1984-91) as teammates in New Jersey.
