Hunter Shinkaruk's hat trick leads Medicine Hat Tigers past Cougars 4-1 @NHLdotcom

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - Hunter Shinkaruk had a hat trick as the Medicine Hat Tigers disposed of the Prince George Cougars 4-1 in Western Hockey League play Wednesday.

Brendan Hurley had the other goal for Medicine Hat (39-21-5), while captain Emerson Etem added two assists. Edmonton Oilers prospect Tyler Bunz made 32 saves for the win.

The Tigers have now won three games in a row.

Greg Fraser was the lone scorer for Prince George (19-42-2), while Drew Owsley stopped 39 of 42 shots.

Shinkaruk opened the scoring six minutes 41 seconds into the first period. He struck again 8:46 into the third period and then added an empty-net goal with 18 seconds left to play.

The hat trick brought Shinkaruk's season total up to 45 goals, fourth best in the WHL.

Medicine Hat didn't score on its one power play, while the Cougars went 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
