One night after falling in overtime in the Canadian capital, the Nashville Predators have returned to the United States - Chicago, to be exact - to face the Blackhawks tonight at the United Center. It's the second of four meetings between the divisional rivals this season; the Preds were victorious back on Dec. 1 in Nashville.
It was a tale of two different efforts on Monday night in Ottawa - Nashville surrendered three goals in the game's opening period, only to score three unanswered in the final two frames to force overtime and salvage a point.
Even so, the Preds are 0-5-2 in their last seven contests away from home, a streak the group would quickly like to correct.

"With the exception of the first, we were right there, we were skating and competing and doing all the good things that we need to do on the road to get points," Preds defenseman Mattias Ekholm said. "We just have to clean up that first 20, and then we're good, but obviously we can play better."

NSH Recap: Josi scores twice in 4-3 overtime loss

Last Time Out:
Roman Josi scored twice - once on the power play - and Craig Smith added another with the man advantage on Monday night. Thomas Chabot won it for the Senators just 21 seconds into OT to give Ottawa an extra point. After going down 3-0 after one period, Preds Head Coach Peter Laviolette elected to pull Pekka Rinne in favor of Juuse Saros, who ultimately took the loss.
Ryan Johansen had a three-assist effort on Monday and leads the club in scoring with 29 points, followed by Josi with 26 and Ekholm with 21. Smith has 10 goals on the season, former Blackhawks forward Ryan Hartman has nine, while Josi, Colton Sissons and Calle Jarnkrok have seven each.

Laviolette says his team has to start better

The Opposition:
It's been a tough go of things for the Blackhawks (10-19-6) even after firing now-former head coach Joel Quenneville in favor of Jeremy Colliton earlier this season. Chicago has won just once in nine tries during the month of December, including a 5-2 loss to the Preds on Dec. 1 and 7-3 defeat at the hands of San Jose on Sunday.
Patrick Kane leads the team with 38 points, followed by Jonathan Toews with 30 points and Alex DeBrincat with 26. Toews, Kane and DeBrincat also pace the Hawks in goals with 16, 15 and 14, respectively. Goaltender Corey Crawford suffered a concussion in Sunday's game; Cam Ward is 4-5-4 on the season for Chicago.

All-Time Meetings:
The Predators are 49-48-(4)-9 all-time against the Blackhawks, including a 21-27-(1)-6 record at the United Center. The Preds have earned at least a point in four of their last five games against Chicago (3-1-1), and Nashville has limited Chicago to two-or-fewer goals in each of their last five meetings.
This will be the 111th time the Predators and Blackhawks clash in the regular season, Nashville's most against a single opponent.
Notables Versus Chicago:
Ryan Johansen has 19 points (5g-14a), including five multi-point games, in 26 career regular-season meetings with the Blackhawks. Pekka Rinne made his NHL debut and earned his first career victory on Dec. 15, 2005, versus Chicago. Dan Hamhuis has 32 points (5-27a) in 68 career contests against Chicago.
