The Nashville Predators will add a new opponent to the record books tonight when they face the Vegas Golden Knights for the first time ever.
In the midst of their first season of play, the Golden Knights will be making their first of two trips to Nashville this season, while the Predators are scheduled to visit Vegas just after the start of the new year.
For an expansion team, the Golden Knights are hardly playing like one, posting 17 wins and battling for first in the Pacific Division. Tonight will also mark the return of former Preds winger James Neal who was selected by Vegas in the Expansion Draft this summer.

"I expect a tough game; they're beating everybody, and not just beating them, they're doubling up on almost everything they do," Preds Head Coach Peter Laviolette said of the Golden Knights. "They're winning hockey games, they're off to a terrific start, they're battling for first in their division and there's no fluke to it… If you're not ready to play, you'll probably end up in the loss column. We don't want to fall into that, we want to make sure we're ready to compete and ready to play."

Last Time Out:
The Predators completed a back-to-back set and a stretch of 12 games in 22 days with a 5-2 win over the Stars in Dallas. Kevin Fiala, Cody McLeod, Pontus Aberg, Kyle Turris and Calle Jarnkrok all found the back of the net in the victory, while goaltender Juuse Saros made a career-high 43 saves in the win.
Filip Forsberg continues to lead the Preds with 14 goals and 28 points, followed by Viktor Arvidsson and Roman Josi with 19 points apiece, and then Mattias Ekholm, P.K. Subban and Kevin Fiala all have 18 points to their name. Goaltender Pekka Rinne is 16-4-2 this season with a .926 save percentage.
The Opposition:
Vegas has won two straight after snapping a three-game losing skid, including a 4-3 shootout win over Anaheim on Tuesday. William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault co-lead the team with 25 points apiece, while Neal and Reilly Smith have 21 points each. Goaltender Malcolm Subban, P.K.'s brother, is 6-2-0 in his eight starts this season.

Expansion Meetings:
Four franchises have joined the NHL following Nashville's inaugural season: Atlanta/Winnipeg, Minnesota, Columbus and Vegas. Since the Predators entered the League in the 1998-99 season, they are 2-1-0 in their first-ever games against expansion sides. Nashville is a combined 7-3-1 against expansion clubs playing in their first NHL season.
Vegas Connections:
Neal spent three seasons in Nashville from 2014-17 and tallied 136 points (77g-59a). Defenseman Brad Hunt played three games with Nashville in the 2016-17 season, tallying one assist, and Malcom Subban is the younger brother of Preds defenseman P.K. Subban.
