Holmberg scores twice as Chiefs take 3-2 series lead against Giants

VANCOUVER - Mitch Holmberg scored twice as the Spokane Chiefs defeated the host Vancouver Giants 5-1 on Friday in Western Hockey League playoff action.

Darren Kramer, Blake Gal and Liam Stewart also scored for the Chiefs while Mike Aviani chipped in with two assists.

Brendan Gallagher scored the lone goal for the Giants, who have now dropped three straight games after opening the series with two victories at home.

Eric Williams made 23 saves for the win while Adam Morrison turned away 19 shots in defeat.

Spokane went 1 for 4 on the power play as Vancouver scored once on six chances with the man advantage.

The Chiefs now lead the Western Conference Quarterfinal series 3-2 with Game 6 to be played on Sunday in Washington at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
